Veterans Barber Shop was given its name for two reasons. The first reason is because founder and owner Jonathan A.D. Williams is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. The other reason is because the shop is located on East Veterans Drive in Cookeville, Tennessee.
(2006 - 2014)
Veterans Barber Shop opened in the fall of 2006. Coming from a law enforcement and military background, It was Jonathan's vision to have a simple, traditional men's barber shop. No appointments, informal atmosphere, vacuum clippers and neck shaves were to be the hallmarks. In the first year, Veterans went from an unknown startup to a bustling one-chair shop.
As the shop began its second year, another barber was added. With two barbers behind the chair, Veterans began to flourish. Men were drawn to its simplicity and authenticity, and they brought their sons, dads and friends.
Within a few years, Veterans became one of the busiest barber shops in the area and its original location was no longer adequate. In early 2014, neighboring Greyhound moved its terminal to another location and Veterans moved one door over into the larger space that had been the bus station for 34 years. Later that year, a third barber joined the shop.
Today, Veterans Barber Shop is an institution in the Upper Cumberland region. Customers have been known to drive long distances for a cut at Veterans, and hour-long wait times are not uncommon.
